The Campaign to Fire Dave Nonis: Trade Deadline 2015

The Leafs didn’t make any major moves today – I for one am disappointed to see Bozak and Lupul still on this team – but they did make a couple.

St. Louis Blues get:

Olli Jokinen, 36, C:

  • UFA;
  • 0G, 1A for 1P, +1; 14:18 ATOI in 6 games for the Leafs;
  • 3G, 3A for 6P, +2; 13:31 ATOI in 48 games for the Predators;
  • 82-game average: 21G, 29A for 50P, -9; 18:16 ATOI.

Toronto Maple Leafs Leafs get:

Joakim Lindstrom, 30, C:

  • UFA;
  • 3G, 3A for 6P, -8; 11:05 ATOI in 34 games for the Blues;
  • 82-game average: 11G, 13A for 24P, -16; 12:04 ATOI.

 Conditional 6th Rounder

  • Becomes a 4th Rounder if the Blues make the Finals.

Conclusion:

I have no idea what’s going on here. This trade changes the Franson trade to the Leafs receiving Leipsic, Lindstrom, a 1st Rounder and the Conditional 6th Rounder for Franson and Santorelli. That’s not a bad haul.

As for this one: What the hell is wrong with the Blues? Jokinen has played more this season than Lindstrom but scored less. He’s not a great defensive player unless I’ve missed something. Also, Lindstrom is way younger. He’s also a UFA so he’s probably not an asset. But I don’t really understand why this is something the Blues would do. They obviously have no intention of re-signing Lindstrom and think Jokinen could score more. But I don’t get it anyway.

A win for the Leafs, I think. (That they got more than a 7th Round pick.)

Anaheim Ducks get:

Korbinian Holzer, 27, D:

  • UFA;
  • 2G, 7A for 9P, -10; 17:29 ATOI in 58 games for the Leafs;
  • 82-game AHL average: 3G, 18A for 12P, +11

Toronto Maple Leafs get:

Eric Brewer, 35, D:

  • UFA;
  • 1G, 1A for 2P, -6; 17:16 ATOI in 9 games with Anaheim; 0G, 4A for 4P, +5; 17:50 ATOI in 17 games for Tampa;
  • 82-game average:7G, 16A for 22P, -8; 21:54 ATOI.

2016 5th Rounder

Conclusion

I used to like Holzer as a prospect before I came to accept that the game has changed and he’s too slow and not skilled enough to be more than role player in the league. Brewer was recently injured or is still injured and his career is pretty much over – the last two years have seen his lowest ice time since his rookie year). The Leafs appear to be taking on his contract as a favour, or something. So I am guessing that it’s a 5th round pick because they take on his contract. I figure it would have been lower if Brewer hadn’t been there.

I guess it’s a good move.
