Norm Macdonald: Hitler’s Dog, Gossip and Trickery (2017, Liz Plonka)

This is a pretty amusing but otherwise very standard standup special from someone who has long been one of my favourite standup comedians. (If I can be said to have favourites because I’m definitely a sketch comedy person.)

I’ve heard a few of these jokes before but I’m not sure if they’re reused. I suspect, rather, that I looked up the specific jokes when I was reading an “in memoriam” piece when he died. Because I did spend some time watching sort of a “greatest hits” of his jokes based off some piece or other.

I laughed a bunch and only really quibbled with one part of the set where he harped on a group of people too much for my liking.

But at the end of the day, I still don’t really love these 1 hour specials even when I really like the comedian. It’s just not an art form I love watching in general but particularly on TV. I’ve always felt standup is better in person.

Anyway, I thought Norm Macdonald was extremely funny. He is quite funny here.
