So I’ve been in Vietnam (and Cambodia) for the past three weeks. It was my first trip to that part of the world and basically my first time in Asia if you don’t count Asia Minor.
We had a really great time and I would highly recommend Vietnam as a travel destination, with the caveat that it is the most consistent humidity I have ever experienced in my life, and I didn’t enjoy being sweaty basically every moment I wasn’t in a pool or in my hotel room. (More on the latter in the individual posts. Vietnamese hotel rooms are cold.)
As usual, I am posting my daily journal on this site with the index here. You can find each post through the links below and I will link each post to the subsequent one. I hope you enjoy reading about my trip.

So that’s it, that’s the trip. It was among the best trips I’ve taken, I think, in part because of how long it was – necessitated by the distance – which made it really feel like we saw Vietnam, despite how ridiculously traditional our itinerary was. (When we were in Montenegro, we did what we wanted and it was really different, it seemed to the few tourists me met. Not so in Vietnam, where basically everyone we met was doing almost the exact same thing we were, despite us planning it on our own.)
Though it’s not my favourite country I’ve ever been to I really do understand why so many people, including Anthony Bourdain, named it theirs. And if I had a better tolerance for heat and humidity, I might agree a bit more. Anyway, it’s well worth the trip.
